If you're new to skip hire, choosing the right size can be tricky.

While we offer guidance based on the number of bin bags a skip can hold, the diagram below lets you visually compare skip sizes next to an average-height person. Remember that specific skip dimensions may vary slightly, but they all have a fixed cubic yard capacity.

Advice on skip sizes

To save on expenses, opt for a skip one size larger than your initial estimate. Domestic tasks like DIY, garage, household, and garden clearances generally require skips ranging from 4 to 8 yards. Remember to check your provider’s waste restrictions, which can vary.

If space is limited on your property, you can consider placing the skip on the road, but this necessitates a permit – contact us for guidance. Road permits are less likely for skips larger than 8 yards. For substantial commercial projects, RoRo skips are the best choice, priced based on waste weight and logistics for delivery and collection. Rest assured, we can accommodate all your needs.

Choosing the right skip size

  • 2 cubic yard skip: Ideal for small domestic tasks, fitting approximately 20-30 bin bags of waste.
  • 4 cubic yard skip: A great choice for small construction projects or small-to-large domestic undertakings, accommodating about 40-50 bin bags.
  • 8 cubic yard skip: Often known as the standard ‘builder’s skip,’ these hold between 80 and 90 bin bags of waste.
  • 12 cubic yard skip: A versatile choice for various projects, including moderate-sized home renovations, garden clearances, and small-scale construction jobs.
  • 14 cubic yard skip: Suitable for small to mid-scale construction projects, with a capacity of up to 200 black bin bags of waste.
  • 20 cubic yard RoRo skip: Holding a maximum of 15 tonnes or roughly 320 bin bags of waste.
  • 30 cubic yard RoRo skip:
  • 40 cubic yard RoRo skip: Our largest option, holding approximately 440 black bin bags of waste.
  • 40 cubic yard enclosed skip: Designed for larger-scale industrial and commercial waste disposal needs, accommodating substantial volumes of waste while maintaining efficient removal and transportation.
